A Patch for Those from Indiana

Indiana PatchAre you from Indiana?  If you are, you might want to put the Indiana Patch on your jacket.  This is one of the many State Rockers patches on The Cheap Place that was designed to fit on the sleeve of your jacket or shirt.  It measures 4 by 1.75 and can be either sewn on or ironed on.  The patch is pretty simple: it's just white lettering on a black background, but it doesn't need to be anything more.

Indiana is the Hoosier State, and it was the 19th state of the U.S.  It's a part of the Great Lakes region and was home to many different Native American tribes before it became a state.  While you may expect people from Indiana to be called Indianans, they are actually known as Hoosiers.  The exact nature of this word is unknown, but most believe it came from a Southern slang term for an ignorant country person.  However, Hoosiers have claimed this word as their own and proudly use it.

The capital city of Indian is Indianapolis, and it's also one of the largest cities in the state.   It wasn't the first capital city, though, the first was Vincennes.  Later, Corydon became the capital, and it was the seat of government when Indiana became a state.

One of the biggest sports in Indiana is auto racing.  One of the most popular and famous auto races, the Indianapolis 500, is held every Memorial Day weekend.  Several other large races are held in Indiana over the years.  The state is also home to an NBA team, and the state is known as the birthplace of high school basketball.  The beginning of basketball as a high school sport in Indiana became the basis of the movie Hoosiers.
