This is actually created when their neck ribs expand. This hood gives the cobra its name, which comes from the Portuguese words for 'snake with hood'. The king cobra, the largest venomous snake is the world, can grow up to 18 feet or more. It's a highly aggressive animal, and while it usually only attacks and eats other snakes, it will attack humans and large animals if threatened.
