If you were a member of Desert Storm, you may want to add a Desert Storm Patch - Small Vet Patch to your jacket or vest. It's one of the arched Rocker Patches that measures 3.75 by 1.5 inches. The patch features plastic iron-on backing that will work with all materials except leather. For that, you'll want to sew it on.
Desert Storm officially began on January 17, 1990, and ended on February 28, 1991. While that is the official military designation for the operation, many people refer to it as the Gulf War or the Persian Gulf War. Military personal from 34 different nations were involved in the battle against Iraq. The goal of the operation was to free Kuwait from Iraqi control. Kuwait had been invaded by the Iraqi military in August of 1990 and had been under the rule of a puppet government controlled by Saddam Hussein, military dictator of Iraq, since then.
The coalition, backed by the United Nations, deployed 540,000 troops to liberate Kuwait. They suffered low casualties, while the Iraqi forces lost many soldiers and vehicles. However, even though the Iraqi forces began retreating right away, they set fire to many of Kuwait's oil fields as they did, leaving the country damaged and without one of its major sources of income.
The Desert Storm Vet patch makes a nice addition to the jacket of anyone who saw action in the desert. The patch looks great, too, the border and lettering are in white. The letters are also outlined in the same dark green that many military uniforms use.
