In the following years, Mexico would war with the U.S., face a civil war and other domestic problems, and eventually emerge as the country we know today in 1917.

The country has one of the world's largest economies and was the first Latin American country to be named to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. They are also a part of NAFTA. Much of the country's economy comes from tourism: Mexico was ranked the 10th most visited country in the world in 2007.
