Being a firefighter is one of the noblest professions out there. These brave men and women put themselves in harm's way every day. They save lives by risking their own. The firefighters of New York City went above and beyond the call of duty on September 11, 2001, when they did everything they could to save those trapped in the collapsing World Trade Center Towers. We will never forget those who gave their lives to save others. One way of remembering and honoring these heroes is by wearing the FDNY MIA Never Forgotten Patch, which is found in the Firemen Patches category.
This patch is a little busy, but it has many different elements related to those missing in action following the events of 9-11. The fireman's axe was once one of their main pieces of equipment. One of the ways firefighters used to use to contain fires was by creating fire breaks. They would use the axes to demolish buildings in the path of the oncoming fire. They were also used to break down doors and create escape routes for those trapped in burning buildings. While firefighters no longer carry axes as part of their everyday equipment, fire engines usually have one or two in the emergency kit just in case.
Behind the axe is a silhouette of a firefighter with the World Trade Center towers. Even though this patch is somewhat small (it measures 2.75 by 2.5 inches), it's still quite detailed. There's no better way to remember these brave firefighters than with a patch like this one.
