Each of the branches of the United States military has its own logo and symbols. The U.S. Army is no exception. The logo of the army is the eagle, which features in the logos of several military branches. For the army, this eagle is golden. It clutches a branch in one claw and a batch of arrows in the other. The arrow is often a sign of battle and war, and the eagles associated with the U.S. usually have an arrow or arrows held in one talon. Above the eagle is a circle with a field of stars in it, which also often appears on different military logos. The eagle is set in front of the black star outlined in yellow. This star is the main part of the basic U.S. Army logo: a square with this star in the middle of it. This patch is a bit fancier. The star is within a circle that is set on a field of green, the main army color. Above all of this is 'U.S. Army' in white.
It's a complicated patch, obviously, with a lot of meaning behind it: the eagles, the red, white, and blue shield, the arrows, the star, even the color green all have special meanings within the military and the army especially. This smallish patch measures 2 by 2.75 inches and can be either sewn on or ironed on to clothing.
