The introduction to the Funny Patches section at The Cheap Place says of that funny patches are meant to make people laugh. I couldn't agree more. That's why I love the Certified Muff Diving Instructor patch that recently arrived to the site. It made me laugh for two reasons. First, the obvious play on words reminded me of a macho, gung-ho, over-the-top diving instructor addressing his new recruits for the first time. Second, I laughed because I began wondering how one would become certified in the muff diving?
I suppose a third reason this patch is funny is because there aren't a whole lot of people who know what it means. "Muff diving" is a phrase we used to use when I was a teenager. But it wasn't in use prior to that time and I don't think people use it today unless they're my age. This is one of those patches I think will generate quite a few blank stares and head scratching. In fact, you'll probably get more laughs watching people and how they react.
So, like The Cheap Place says, have fun with these of funny saying patches. Sew them to your leathers, iron to your clothes, or attach them to your hats.
