If you're a Christian, you can probably quote the famous John 3:16 passage without a second thought. This Bible verse has become one of the most quoted sayings from the Bible. It's from the Gospel of John, and it is often called the Gospel in a nutshell. The John 3 16 Patch, one of the Christian Patches, quotes the entire verse just in case you need to remind someone what it (and, really, all of Christianity and the Bible) are all about.
John 3:16 reads, 'For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life'. This verse summarizes what Jesus says to Nicodemus, a member of the ruling council of Jerusalem. He has come to believe that Jesus is, indeed, the Son of God. Jesus confirms this (his exact words are quoted in John 3:5-6). The line is almost always translated the same no matter what version of the Bible you're reading.
You'll find John 3:16 in many interesting places. People sometimes write it on signs when they're in an audience or know they'll be on camera. The burger chain In-N-Out Burgers actually prints John 3:16 on the bottom of their cups, and the clothing chain Forever 21 has it on the bottom of their shopping bags. WWE wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin's catchphrase 'Austin 3:16' is a take-off of the verse.
