Bikers from New Jersey, here's your state rocker patch! There's one for every state in the U.S., and this one is for all those who were born in or have adopted New Jersey as their home state. Like the other rockers, this New Jersey patch it measures 4 by 1.75 inches and is arched to fit perfectly on the shoulder of your riding jacket. If you are from this Northeastern state, you might want to add this patch to your jacket. It can be ironed on or sewn on to just about any material.
New Jersey was, like many of the original 13 states, originally populated by Native Americans. Tribes like the Lenape lived along the coastline, and they did come into conflict with some of the original Dutch and Swedish settlers. When the British took control of the area, they named it the Province of New Jersey after Jersey, the largest of the Channal Islands. Later, following the American Revolutionary War, it became the third state of the union on December 18, 1787.
Nicknamed The Garden State, New Jersey is one of the smallest of the United States. It ranks 47th in area. However, the state is situated in the middle of some of the largest cities: New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. Because of this location, many people pass through New Jersey every day, and many who don't want to live in the New York metropolitan area live in New Jersey and commute. Because of this, the state has seen rapid population growth.
New Jersey is home to a number of large industries, but few people think of it as an agricultural state. However, it's actually the second largest producer of blueberries in the U.S., and it ranks third in the production of cranberries and spinach.
