The Vietnam War took place between November 1, 1965, and April 30, 1975. While the conflict was started by North and South Vietnam and was, on the surface, about these two countries, in a larger view, the war was between the United States and the communist countries, mainly the U.S.S.R. It is considered to be one of the major Cold War conflicts, and many soldiers took part in it.
