In recent years there have been a number of different innovations and changes to motorcycles and the way that people perceive those who ride bikes. For many years, riding motorcycles was something that was only seen as an activity that men do. It was not considered a 'ladylike' activity. However, in recent years as the perceptions of both motorcycles and women's capabilities have evolved, so has this preconception. Today, there are enough women motorcyclists that many areas have riding groups that focus on women riders and their love of riding.
One of the major reasons why so many women were not riders before was that there were not many different motorcycle design options, and the ones that were available were seen as being too big and cumbersome for an average sized woman to handle with ease. With the introduction of leaner sporting motorcycles (and even scooters), more and more women are finding that there are bikes on the market that fit their lifestyles. Because of both the willingness for women to be accepted as motorcycle enthusiasts, both within the riding community and society at large, there is a growing increase in the number of women riders.
In response to this, there have also been a number of motorcycle options that are targeted at women. Everything from cute designer motorcycle jackets to saddlebags and custom motorcycle patches has been designed with the women motorcyclists in mind. Between these options and the decorative motorcycle patches made just for them, women riders are leaving their mark. Now you can even find bikes that have custom paint jobs, seats, etc, that are especially intended for women riders. As more and more women find their way into the world of motorcycling, more and more of this equipment and gear is going to be designed specifically for them.
