A Perfect Patch for the 1970s

radioactive patchToday's selection, from the IT-Patches category, brings back many memories from my childhood. I'm referring to the yellow and black Radioactive patch and the memories of living with the "threat" of nuclear devastation that was supposed to wipe out the planet before I reached adulthood. In one of the schools I attended, I have vivid memories of walking in the front door and seeing the yellow and black radioactive sign and the words "nuclear fallout shelter" plastered front and center on the main wall.

Looking back on it now I realize how foolish we were;  not only in fear, but also in the expectation that a school building was actually going to protect us from radioactive fallout. Yet there we were, every school year, sitting in the gym and practicing the emergency skills we would need if the Soviets bombed us. I suppose the teachers were just doing what they were told to do regardless of whether or not they knew better.

This patch is a great way for you to recount the memories of the 1970s - if you're old enough to have experienced them. Place this one on a black leather vest and it is sure to stick out like a sore thumb. It has die-cut borders which makes sewing it to your leathers fairly straightforward. If you prefer to attach it to a fabric you don't even need to sew; just get a hot iron and apply it that way.
