Another Retro Bike Patch

drink fight smoke screw ride motorcycle patchI love browsing through all the different categories at The Cheap Place, mostly because I'm fascinated with the ides some of the patch designers come up with. Today's offering, the Motorcycle patch found in the Biker Patches section, is a case in point. At first glance, without ever reading what it says, it screamed 1960s at the top of its lungs. After you see it maybe you'll agree.

Anyway, the point is that the design was enough to catch my eye and make me take a second look. It's a pretty big patch, at 12"x6", and it features five common words from the biker vocabulary, neatly arranged in the shape of a typical road hog motorcycle. And with plenty of black, white, and orange, the Harley Davidson undertones can't be ignored.

Now, the reason it says 1960s to me is because that type of lettering was big back then as a marketing tool. They used it on TV shows, in print advertising, all over the place in fact. The big, bawdy letters and bright colors were designed to demand your attention - and it succeeded. Well, so does this patch.

This motorcycle deserves a home on the back of your leathers. It's too big and heavy for just about anything else, so don't even bother. Besides, against black or brown leather, the lettering jumps right out at you. This is one patch that's going to cause people to tell you to stand still while they read it.
