We're all going to die of something, right? The truth is, some of my ancestors lived to be close to 100 years old without the intervention of doctors running tests on everything from cholesterol to sickle cell anemia to iron levels. I mean, if all of these preventative measures were so necessary to long life, how did Methuselah make it to the ripe old age of 969? I bet he wasn't worried about caffeine and fatty foods.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate my doctor - he's just trying to help me avoid unnecessary health issues. I'm just not interested in extending my lifespan by a few years if it means I have to eat gravel and rice cakes. I think I'd rather sew one of these patches to my jacket as a gentle way of letting the doc know I don't want to talk about my cholesterol anymore. Maybe I'll get one for my ball cap, and another for my fishing hat, so I can tweak some of my health-conscious friends too!
