If you're a veteran of the Iraqi war, The Cheap Place has something just for you in their collection of Iraq War Patches. It's a three-inch Desert Storm patch with an American Flag front and center. You can sew it on a jacket or iron it on a hat. Either way, you'll be proud to walk around knowing that others will see and thank you for your service to your country.
For me personally, the patch caught me off guard when I first saw it. I wasn't sure why, but after a while I realized it was the color scheme. Most of the patches you see use a neutral background, like black, along with whites and bright reds, blues, and greens. But this patch uses brown and a sand color to accentuate the fact that it commemorates the war in the desert.
And that got me thinking.
This is a very different kind of war we've been fighting for the last nine years. It's not the large-scale battlefield of WWII which saw armies come on one another from opposite ends. It's not even the jungle and forest warfare of Korea and Vietnam. This is an urban warfare where it's often difficult to determine your strategy and figure out who your enemy is. My hat is off to the fighting men and women who are not only fighting this war, but doing so in a way the U.S. military isn't accustomed to.
God bless them all.
